Design Research Methodology || Research Proposal
week 1
MIB notes
- before the class need to review the recorded video for lectures
- need to make sure all cams attendance is key in
- this module is preparing the groundwork for next semester to write a dissertation
- this module require a lot of reading that is related to design
- always start from what u choose for the topic
- find material article related
- all submission is fall on Monday noon
- systematic and creative investigation into and study materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
- increase stock of knowledge
After selecting our field of interest/topic, we need to develop further research
- write about the research problem in the form of a statement
- the research question that is derived from the research problem
- research objective that would like to be achieved, that needs to be achieved in the research process
Instructions
TASK
In this module, we are required to choose the specialization that we are going to learn for the rest of our degree. On the first day, we have our sharing session that shared how is the specialized course is like.
Fig 1 - Proposal Draft
This is my draft, which I compile into one pdf. For the first draft, I want to talk about the Lack of learning engagement in and after the Covid19 Pandemic situation. However, after I did some research, there is no lack of engagement, they are more willing to go to offline study rather than stay online which really contradicts my problem statement. So I change into "Lack of interest in reading academic books for elementary students".
After I show that problem topic to the lecturer. I got feedback that it is still wide, I need to make it specific and focus. So I change again into "Lack of interest in reading academic books for students in Southeast Asia"
Fig 2 - Finalized Proposal
Fig 3 - Proposal PPT
After this week, we are told that we can still revise it in week 13 if we have any changes according to our feedback.
Feedback
Week 1
- nothing
Week 2
- The research problem is too broad and time-consuming.
- And try to find articles that can support the problem
- Might consider other problem
- Find an article that was no more than 3 years ago.
Week 3
- Try to change the ‘I’ into ‘The researcher’ or ‘my name to make it into academic research
- Also, pay attention to the citation in the problem statement.
- For the problem, it is still broad, try to focus on a specific group
- Try to not be a Mass Com student
Week 4
All good no feedback just proceeds to the next steps (making the citation & ppt)
Progress Remarks / Action/ Reflection
Week 1
What we do:
- The specialization of study is confirmed, which is simulation design
- Research on my specialization of study and exploring potential topics
- Finding research journals or scholar articles in google scholar
- Writing the first draft of the research proposal (Research Rational)
- Make google drive folder for the progression with subfolders include research proposal, research design primary data, critical review, report reflection and presentation
Findings:
One thing that I found is that there is no problem with VR other than motion sickness or the VR headset that is so expensive.
Week 2
What we do:
- Show the 1st draft of my research proposal to Dr. Hayati for feedback
Week 3
What we do:
- I changed the topic because after doing some research there are no articles or journals that can support my problem even the journals contradicted my research problem
- Show the 2nd draft of my research proposal to Dr. Hayati for feedback
Week 4
Experience: In this week, we have the library workshop to do, so we spent 2 hours learning how to do research 101 and Mendeley. I learned a lot of things from that.
Observation: After I had done the workshop, I notice that there was something that I didn't know before about our school's online library.
Finding: I learned how to cite during my foundation as we did another workshop in our English module. However, there was also something for me to learn for example how to cite other people that were cited in the research paper that I found. This helped me a lot so I quickly change my proposal that directly cites the person in the research paper.
