Project 1 - DraftDissertation

In the first class of this module, we were briefed and introduced to what this module is about and how we are going to move forward from the previous semester's module, Design Research Methodology .

Firstly, our project to begin this module with is about creating the draft of our dissertation. The contents that are needed to be included are listed out in the assignment brief.

Before anything else, we were told to look through our slides from the previous semester, to refresh our minds and look back on what we've done to see if any adjustments wants to be made.

In class, Dr. Hayati also told us to create a matrix. Based on our research questions, highlight the keywords in which they will be the topics for discussion. For each keyword/topic, we needed columns for the details, literature and collected data.

Here is the first draft of my matrix,

This week, I got to share with Dr. Hayati the the progress of the matrix and literature review. With the feedback received, I needed to make the necessary changes to improve on the work.

After the consultation, she also brief us on what to do next. We needed to complete all the literature reviews, update our matrix and start to work on the draft, following the sequence of contents given in the brief.

Here is the updated matrix.

In a word doc, I started to work on the draft which included these topics.

Comment's that I get from Dr. Hayati regarding my draft dissertation are:

1. Please make sure to follow the interim deadline to ensure finish the draft dissertation on time and not rush everything

2. The theme is not specific to broad. Compare to the sub-topics it more specific. Narrow down, the working title is not too broad.

3. For all the survey question, it needed to put it into appendices

4.  For the discussion, I need to explain more and discuss more about it, because right now the word count still so low, below 2000

However I also got insight from my other classmates individual section such as:

1. Need to make a diagram for our methodology to make the reader know better

2. The naming of figure and table, and also need to add list of tables and figure

And finally here is my final draft dissertation

Project 2 - Visual Design

In project 2 we need to make a visual design such as the cover design, table of contents and also content page.

In the first week, I do some research on how my visual design publications will look like. First, I got to pinterest, and searched for things like book cover, table of content, page numbering design, for my reference.

Then from there I save it to my board, which next week can be shown to the Teacher.

And here is the feedback that I got

Specific Feedback:

- Need to change the color palette, choose something that represent technology

- Find something that is playful in the sametime serious

From there I refine my color pallete, and aslo find another reference for my visual design.

And start designing it already.

Specific Feedback:

- The cover page seems okay, but now it looks like meant for kindergarten rather than for elementary student

- Try to search some reference for the typography for the cover page that suit for elementary student 

From that comment, I do refinement and leads to my final design.

Project 3 - Article Journal Publication

Guideline:

During the briefing session for this final assignment, it was mentioned that the KREATE TDS journal format should be used to submit the assignment. It's important to adhere to the required word count for each section and use the provided font. As this is a shorter assignment, it is recommended to choose a section of your dissertation to discuss in this article. You may choose to focus on just one research question or objective.

Progress

So after I got this brief, I want my article objective is to be talking about the benefits of the implementation of VR into elementary academic books. So that is why I propose my article title to be "Assessing The Implications of using VR in Elementary Academic Books"

However from that, Dr. Hayati comment that the word "Implications" feels more having negative rather than positife. Although in here, my article should be targeted parents or teacher who want to consider whether or not to give their children a VR. So Dr. Hayati suggest me to change the title into something more positive.

So after I got the feedback, I just need to change it and here is my final article publication

Reflections

So far, I always find it really difficult when it comes to writing something, and in this module we need to make an article based on our reacher that we did in our previous module. However, it really comfortable, because Dr.Hayati also helping us to write and produce a good research paper with her comment. Although I am a bit of struggling, but I manage to finish it well.

Overall, I only like the second assignment, because only in there we as a designer can show our skill. But for other project like one and three. For assignment three, it is quite easy, because we only need to focus on one research question and objective. But in assignment one, that is a challenge for me, because there is a word minimum. But funny thing, when it come to writing assignment 3, I a bit struggling because there is the word maximum / limit.
