Proposal

The first time we got the assignment. The next day we immediately start our first meeting which talked about what topic do we want to work on. And at the start, we want to talk about Malaysian food culture which includes Chinese, Indian, and Malay food itself. However after our topic got checked by the lecturers, our idea is too broad, and we need to specify it even more.

After the class, we did a meeting again, and try to brainstorm about what topic can be used for our project that is under visual culture. And we come out with three topic ideas. In the end, the topic that we choose is Chinese dining culture.

Data-Collection

When we get this assignment, we look for a way to get our data to support our project. However, it is quite hard, because there is no traditional Chinese restaurant near our living. At first, we want to just go to a Chinese restaurant to do our field study, but we do not think that will help our project, because most of us had already been to a Chinese restaurant and used the lazy susan table.

In the end, we choose to use surveys as our medium to get information from the outside and real people. We manage to collect the data from only 10 people. However we do not just stop there, we keep looking for data from other resources, such as youtube videos, articles, and google photos.

Final Project

Our project is a dinner placemat.  Why? Because placemat is really relevant and also near to our target audience. Placemats can be found in most restaurants. This placemat is not like other placemats that are boring and do not have a purpose other than make sure the table is clean. Our placemat is interactive and also informative at the same time.

Informative, here there is a message that we want to convey through our project about Chinese dining culture/etiquette.

Interactive, the placemat is an AR placemat, where people can scan and get immersed with the menu and also learn something from the visual.
